Roude Fuedem N°2 - 2025

2025-07-04

Dear fellow citizens,

Our society depends on the commitment of its citizens. Whether it's within an association, with the fire brigade or in municipal politics, our community life wouldn't function without voluntary work. Serving on a committee is particularly demanding. But sometimes the will to get involved is lacking, often for professional and/or family reasons, and in other cases it's selfishness that takes precedence over community spirit.

Yet one thing is clear: without cohesion, there is no community. What applies to neighbourhoods also applies to sport, culture and politics. Political parties also depend on the commitment of their members. LSAP is a party made up of committed people from diverse backgrounds, reflecting our society. At a time when populist and extremist forces are gaining strength, a strong LSAP is more necessary than ever.

In this issue of ‘roude Fuedem’, we introduce you to our local branch in Roeserbann: who are we, what motivates us and what have we already achieved? Some of our members express themselves in an authentic and accessible way.

Our section has around a hundred members, which is above average for the size of our community. The arrival of new faces last year was particularly pleasing. But we see great potential in the under-35s in particular. So join us!

The committee and the political group are made up of 20 committed members, including our 7 elected members of the aldermen's college and the local council. Monthly meetings, in-depth work and our annual seminar show that the team spirit is alive and well. Our working groups are also very active, for example with events such as the ‘Marche gourmande’, which will be taking place for the tenth time on 21 September.

But involvement isn't limited to the committee: whether it's in the municipal committees, as a member or by lending your support at events, every contribution counts. No contribution is too small.

Are you interested? Then we look forward to welcoming you! Write to us at roeserbann@lsap.lu or come and talk to us in person.

Together we can make a difference, for Roeserbann and beyond!

Anne Hermes,

Christophe Olivier

Co-presidents of LSAP Roeserbann

Further investment in school and childcare infrastructure

In line with its forward-looking education policy, the LSAP majority has decided to plan an additional school building next to the existing school in Berchem. This measure was already included in the original master plan for the school campus, but was initially scheduled for a later date. The decision has now been taken on the basis of a realistic assessment of the current situation and clear political priorities.

The completion of the ‘Kannerinsel’ campus has been delayed by around two years due to exceptional circumstances, in particular the COVID-19 pandemic and supply bottlenecks resulting from the war in Ukraine. As a result, it is unfortunately no longer possible to temporarily accommodate all children from the Crauthem School in the ‘Kannerinsel’ as originally planned.

In order to continue with the partial new construction and renovation of the Crauthem School as planned, the expansion in Berchem represents a pragmatic and forward-looking solution. We are not just thinking of a temporary solution, but of a building that can be used in the long term and offers sustainable added value. The plan is to build a modern school building with Précoce classes on the ground floor and integrated childcare for the youngest children.

It remains to be seen whether the planned use can take place immediately or only after the work in Crauthem has been completed. In any case, the new school will also take future literacy in German and French into account. Additional intermediate spaces will create a flexible and linguistically diverse learning environment for future generations. This will not only strengthen the range of services in Berchem, but also improve the quality of early childhood education throughout the municipality.

At the same time, we are working on a preliminary project to convert the former Maison Relais in Berchem. In future, this will provide age-appropriate, high-quality care for children between the ages of 2 and 4. This will also free up space in the Crèche Meckenhäischen for the baby group – another concrete step towards improving the infrastructure.

Finally, it should be noted that detailed planning for an additional sports hall in Berchem is currently underway. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.

With this forward-looking planning, the LSAP in Roeser remains committed to strong education and childcare services for the benefit of all families.

Roude Fuedem: open floor to new members

Andrea:

My name is Andrea Weimer and I have been living in Crauthem for 28 years now. I am divorced and a mother of 3 children, all of whom went to school here in Crauthem. In the community, I am currently a member of the „intercultural living together commission “. I have witnessed the strong commitment of the LSAP members in our municipality for years. They tirelessly advocate for projects not only to be planned but actually be implemented, so that all citizen can enjoy a livable environment. Roeser characterizes as an open community striving quick integration of new citizens. I recently decided to join the LSAP for various reasons and I share my convictions in many areas with members of the LSAP Roeserbann.

Working in the tourism sector as a private employee I know from personal experience how challenging it can be to assert oneself in Luxembourg. Together with the LSAP I am contributing for making jobs more attractive for the working people in the private sector and to improve services in sectors such as tourism, retail, crafts and to secure many other essential sectors for society. We all use these services and many people depend on them.

The increasing spread of extreme-right tendencies also moves me to take an active stand. My membership in the LSAP gives me the opportunity to contribute personally in countering this development and strengthening our democratic values.

Giovanna:

My name is Giovanna Guden and I have been living in Crauthem for 38 years now. I am married, mother of three children and grandmother of two grandchildren. Within the municipality, I am currently joined as member of several commissions: the “intercultural living together commission“, the „equal opportunities commission“ as well as the „commission of social affairs, children, families and seniors“. Once a week I am dedicated to one of these commissions with meetings being held approximately every six weeks. As a member of the LSAP Roeserbann I am fully committed to actively contributing to living together in our municipality. This party perfectly reflects my convictions and I appreciate its concrete work for the well-being of all citizens. For these reasons my membership in the LSAP was a natural decision inspired by the wish to participate in this collective dynamic. I therefore encourage you to follow my example by joining the LSAP Roeserbann, in order to support the commitment to harmonious and inclusive coexistence, and to contribute building a community in which everyone finds his place and can fully thrive.

Edin:

My name is Edin Babacic, I am 36 years old and I have been living in Berchem since 2016. I work at Spuerkees in the field of risk management. At the time, I chose to settle in the municipality of Roeser to live closer to my workplace. Nowadays I particularly appreciate the infrastructure and the diversity of the community which is reflected in a great open-mindedness and a friendly atmosphere. I am convinced that this municipality is a good place to live and I want to contribute actively in the community’s projects, particularly in the sports activities (my passion), infrastructure and finance (my profession). I joined the LSAP Roeserbann section because I identify with its values, which in today’s world become more important than ever to ensure peace and the well-being of citizens.

LSAP Presentation - Sonja ENGELBERG

My name is Sonja Engelberg and I am 58 years old. I was born in our neighbouring municipality of Weiler-la-Tour and like many other people of the Roeserbann, it is love that brought me to our beautiful municipality. I have been living in Peppange with my husband Jean-Paul Rosen for more than 33 years now and we share two grown-up children, Max and Sarah. Both children attended kindergarten in Peppange and primary school in Crauthem and enjoyed a happy childhood in our beautiful municipality.

I started my professional career as a bank employee and for 5 years I worked simultaneously as an insurance agent. After a few years of professional break due to the birth and upbringing of my children, I returned to work as an insurance agent until now. Thanks to Jean-Paul, who has also been a member of the LSAP Roeserbann for many years, I maintain a friendly relationship with the members of the local section and I was pleased to accept their invitation to join the LSAP Roeserbann family. For a few months now, I have represented our party in the „equality opportunities commission“ of our municipality and since last March I enjoy the confidence of my dear comrades who have entrusted me with the role of treasurer of our section.
